As one of Japan’s few remaining Geisha districts, Higashi Chaya is the quintessential Kanazawa backdrop for your photographic memories. Its old streets, lined with traditional wooden buildings and lattice-work windows, are frozen in time, retaining the atmosphere of its Edo period origins.

After years of photographing clients in Higashi Chaya, I know the streets, corners and angles that work particularly well for portraits, as well as how the light and crowds change throughout the day. Timing and positioning can make a huge difference here, and that experience allows me to make the most of the district while avoiding the busiest backgrounds whenever possible.
